About Grapeness

Grapeness is a wine merchant with more than 800 wines, for private customers, the hospitality trade and wholesale. We first handled its performance marketing and social media.

The brief

Grapeness switched to Odoo. Odoo did a lot for the business, but not everything the way Grapeness wanted it within its own processes. Price lists didn’t look the way the house style requires. Of the 646 online shop texts, 3 had actually been translated into French. Product sheets were made by hand.

What we built

A separate back office, connected to Odoo via the official API. Odoo remains the source of all data. The back office does the extra work, and only writes to Odoo what it manages itself.

  • Price lists. The price lists from Odoo (pallet, hospitality, wholesale) become a polished PDF in the house style. A 51-page price list is ready in about five seconds.
  • Translating with AI. Products and the entire Odoo website are translated with a language model, with proofreading where needed. 679 technical sheets were ready in Dutch and French in a quarter of an hour.
  • Quality control. Which wines are missing the attributes every bottle needs at a minimum? Which links on the website are broken? The back office shows it, with a link to Odoo to fix it.
  • Pages in bulk. A page for each wine estate, filled from a single template in the Odoo website builder.
  • WijnDNA. From what each customer bought, the back office builds a taste profile and three recommendations: a bottle that fits, a step further, and a surprise. At the end of the year, that becomes a personal email and page in the style of Spotify Wrapped: your wine journey of the year.

No email goes out without someone from Grapeness approving it.

How it’s built

Laravel, React and PostgreSQL on our own server, with two-factor authentication and more than 200 automated tests. Claude does three clearly defined things: turning wine descriptions into taste profiles, rewriting sentences in the house style and suggesting page copy. Who gets which recommendation is plain arithmetic: explainable and the same every time.
